I’ve raised a little tomboy who has a prissy side too!
It’s a quiet Sunday so I figured why don’t we have a spa day? So in between laundry and Mimi napping in her playpen, I concocted an easy and super beneficial facial mask. It left my skin feeling amazing and refreshed and any kid, (particularly my 6 year-old) will love to do it with you!
Gabs did!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup of Oatmeal (Organic or Instant is optional)
- 1 Large Egg minus yolk.
- 1 ripe Banana
- 1 tbsp. of Olive Oil (Organic is optional)
- 1 tsp. of Honey
- Foundation Brush
- Blender or Coffee Grater
- 2 Green Tea Bags (Optional)
- 2 slices of Cucumber (Optional)
The Ingredients & Steps!
Step 1: Take the ripest banana you have, peel it, then cut it into small chunks. Place on a plate and with a clean fork begin to mash-up the banana. Do not mash it until becomes liquidy, leave a few chunks. Bananas have vitamins A, B, E and F and act like anti-oxidants. The skin benefits of this potassium rich fruit is that it will moisten your skin.
Step 2: In a separate mixing bowl, break the large egg and separate the yolk from the egg white. Move yolk from one half of the egg to the other until all of the egg white is in the bowl. Discard the shell and yolk. Eggs are high in vitamin E and will help to tone and tighten your skin. This is kinda like the anti-aging agent in this mix. I know egg on your face is gross but, you hardly notice it in the end.
Now, the sweet stuff!
Honey.
Step 3: In the same bowl that your egg white is in, add a TSBP. of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a TSP. of honey. Add the mashed banana and begin to mix until it becomes a whole batter.
Next is Olive Oil, these ingredients have been known to help with acne and pimples and helps your skin retain moisture if you have very dry skin. the last of the liquid ingredients is Olive Oil. I think Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a miracle worker, besides giving amazing flavor to your food it is good for your body inside and out. Olive oil will soothe and moisten your skin and is excellent for dry skin.
Time to Exfoliate!
Oatmeal is totally awesome. Besides being totally yummy, it’s super good for your skin. Remember if you ever got the chicken pox the doctor ordered an oatmeal bath? LOL. Well, for your face, it will help remove surface dirt and blemishes. It’s like nature’s natural skin cleanser.
Step 4: Either with a blender or coffee grater, grate the 1/2 cup of oatmeal into a fine grain or if you choose to (I did) leave the oatmeal a bit chunky. I did this to use an exfoliate/scrub when I washed the mask off at the end. Add the oatmeal to the batter until completely moist.
Step 5: Rinse your face with warm water to open your pores. With a foundation brush begin to evenly coat your face, once it is covered with a thin layer, begin to generously apply the mix to your face so that your face is covered with the chunks in a thick layer. Make sure you pat that stuff down so you don’t have drip. Drippy oatmeal on your carpet or couch. Not pretty! LOL! You can top with two cucumbers over your eyelids or moistened Green Tea bags to help with dark under eye circles.
Let it sit until it begins to harden on your face. About 15 mins or so. Once hardened, it’s time to remove the mix with lukewarm water. This is where you can gently massage your face with the chunkier bits of oatmeal to remove a layer of dead skin cells and leave your skin smooth like a baby’s bottom!
For reals!
Step 6: Pat dry with a towel and follow with your favorite moisturizer.
And you’re done! If you have any facial mix left over you can store it in the fridge and it has a 2-3 day shelf life.
I suggest you repeat weekly if you’d like.
I’ve never been one to use tons of chemicals on my face so I prefer natural products. It was a fun activity to do with Gabs and it was great for our skin. She changed into her jammies and busted out her robe and felt so special. I love it!
So, give it a try! Come back and let me know if it worked for you! I’m by no means an expert and as always, if you’re not sure, always contact a professional. I just love using natural products. The skin is the largest organ of the body, so anything that goes on your skin is absorbed through it. That is why I suggest you use organic materials!
Well, let me know if you do try it and if it does wonders for your skin!
It does for me!
Do you make your own facials at home?
Let me know!
Til then, cheers m’deres!
